Resolutions
In the past, my New Year's resolutions have been a little vague and not very measurable, like "don't cheat yourself out of happiness" or "infuse more positivity in my life". This year, the list will be short, sweet, and will include things that are both measurable and possible to accomplish. Go me.
- Read the entire Bible
It will be helpful as a Lit major, and it's such a huge part of our culture. I don't want to be ignorant of something just because I don't agree with what it's all about. My dad is getting me the Daily Walk Bible, and I will read a few pages every day for the next year until I'm done. - Let go of the past
It hurts that my friendships with Ron, Jerry and Jeff crumbled, it really does. But it's time to make sure I've properly grieved, and then put all of that away for good. - Prepare yourself for your future career
I've decided I want to get into copy editing when I'm done with school. Can you picture me getting to read books (and then correcting them) for a living? I can. I'm going to memorize the APA and Chicago formatting manuals, learn Quark, take some classes at D.U. that are right up this alley, find an internship, and make as many contacts as I can. This may stretch over a few years, but I want to get going on it now so that I can get into a great job when I graduate. - Stay committed to therapy
I want to stick with it, be as open and honest as I can, and work hard on getting through my issues. They will not conquer me, they do not own me, and they do not define me. - Spend money more wisely
I live much more extravagantly than I need to, and I'd like to stop. Spend less, save more, stop requesting more student loan money than I need (which will bite me in the ass later). - Honor my body
I need to be kinder to myself and treat my body with respect and not punishment. This means making a commitment to not fill it with junk, to be active and not sedentary, and to respect my own limits.
- Read the entire Bible

Have fun reading the bible. I've read it several times. It's so incredibly contradictory. Book of Numbers sucks though. I barely got through that one.
I haven't read the Bible either. I've wanted to in the past, but I have no desire to anymore.
The Bible is on everyone's list this year
ohh the Bible. good one. when you read, just keep in mind that the Old Testament (like Numbers, Leviticus, the ridiculous books) were written precisely to seem ridiculous and unreasonable..to show that no one could live up to perfection, which is fulfilled by the New Testament and how we don't need those rules anymore.
it's a beautiful book, regardless of what you believe
ps you seem to be doing better shelly...i hope someday you'll post a protected post about what happened with your friendships, i'm sorry you had to go through that.
i could never read the bible. it makes no sense, to me. spend money more wisely. i like that one. i am a cheap-oh over here. i never go to the bar because i refuse to pay $3.50 for one beer. i need to be more active. this office job has made me pack on the pounds.
1. Understandable. There are Christian undertones in almost every aspect of our lives (from legislation to educational expectations to methods of scientific inquiry), so it would indeed be helpful to know a bit about Christianity.
2. Thumbs up for moving on.
3. I'm really excited for you! I find that a lot of my students don't know what they want to do after school, and so they sort of coast on through to graduation with no real purpose and end up taking whatever boring job makes the first (or biggest) offer. Hopefully having a career in mind will give new purpose to your studies.
4. Yeah. Over here, I'm trying to *get* committed to therapy. It's kind of a scary prospect... like I'm admitting not only that I'm broken, but also that I'm too incompetent to fix myself. A second thumbs up for bettering yourself.
5. Student loans = awful. I read an article about the "Student Loan Bubble" that compared the student loan crisis to the housing crisis.
6. Best luck! I think your commitment to your mind should be mirrored by a commitment to your body, and I'm happy to see this on your list!
Happy 2010, Michelle.
Good resolutions. I haven't made any cuz then I would have to assess my life and I've been so depressed I just can't deal with that right now.
NEW RESOLUTION: STOP STARVING YOUR ORPHAN CHILD KNOWN AS XANGA IMMEDIATELY!
Awesome goals. Not sure which version that Daily Walk Bible is... but The Message is the version that will most appeal to you, I promise. You will laugh out loud while reading it. And it reads like a novel. Trust me.
Sticking with therapy is so hard when you feel like you've made a ton of progress. So easy to think "Okay... I know what I'm doing now.. I can handle this..." and let appointments slide.
Awesome on copy editing. Won't make much money, but you will be a master.
