Stuff. And Things.
- This day, week, month, and year are going by SO QUICKLY. I really need everything to stop so I can catch up.
- Thinking about Komen/Planned Parenthood, Valentine’s Day, the Super Bowl, and all the other stuff I really want to blog about at Soldiers in Petticoats, and feeling like there’s just no way to get it all done, what with work, school, the side jobs I am doing (copy editing, web content and design), etc. It’s sad, but if I was offered more hours in the day, I would take them (rather than simplifying my life).
- My creative non-fiction pieces for my Art & Craft of Writing class went over really well (we’re talking no edits but lots of compliments, sometimes embarrassing, gushing ones) with my group. We just started our poetry unit, which scares the shit out of me. Poetry seems the most intimidating of all forms of writing because every word has to pack a punch and be rife with meaning. What if I end up writing horrible, laughable, trite teenage girl poems and then get laughed at or looked down on? Nooo!!!!!!! A tip I got from classmates and the lecture last night were to not write about anything too emotional or personal, which I think is a great way to start.
- This weekend is busy. Friday is Jen’s birthday and we’re going to Chloé Mezze Lounge for dinner (I’ve never been there but it looks shi-shi and fancy and delish). There’s also this (Unicorn Love Party), but it’s a bit too much excitement/drinking/crowd for me, so I’ll probably just come home. Saturday I’m having lunch with Greg and Paige in FoCo (they will have just gotten back from Hawaii, and they’ll probably talk constantly about it, which will be almost unbearable because I’ll be jealous) and dinner with Dad and his girlfriend Anne (I hear she’s a good cook, so yay to that). Then Sunday I’m going over to Ash’s house to hang with her, Rob, and Jen and have gumbo. I’ve never had it before so it should be interesting (I hope I don’t hate it).
- Tonight I get my brand new mattress set. YAY! Here’s to a good night’s sleep, finally.
- Here is my brand new rug, by the way (the non-”rugly” one, absolutely not made of old denim jeans). Angry kitty sold separately.
It’s hard to tell, but the rug is a dark gray / brown color, solid, but with swirly patterns.
I moved the ottoman over (covered with a patchwork quilt because Tilly – that thing with the tail on the left-hand side – likes to dig her claws into the leather). Still figuring the furniture arrangements out.
She was really just meowing, but that picture looks like one of those dead stuffed fish with all the sharp teeth sticking out. Gross! - Time to get back to work. This afternoon I will be playing with Photoshop for a project, which should be fun.

I’m so in need of a new mattress, but I’m apprehensive about getting something new and not liking it.
As far as writing poetry, I would seriously just look around, and the first thing you notice (a coffee mug, a plant, your cat, etc.), just start with that.
Your cat frightens me.
@Emancip8 - Just try a million different things. Narrowing it down to a pillow-top style or memory foam style will help a lot, as will deciding if you like a firm or a soft mattress. Any decent mattress place will have a policy that lets you return it within 30 days if you don’t like it.
@pretendprincess - Good idea. I think writing emotionally is definitely not the way to go here.
I just watched a PBS home video (I’m cool like that) Healing Words: Poetry and Medicine. It was really good, I found it pretty inspiring to write.
Your place looks really comfortable….
poetry is a pain in the ass!
i gave up on my writing years ago. i sed to have fun with writing haikus though.
unicorn love party! wow, that just sounds so magical!
i would absolutely love to be able to get a new mattress set. enjoy!!!
@wendylane - Thanks! It’s *super* comfy, and I love being there.
@sheshe143 - Haiku is an option, but since they are so short, we have to write 4 of them if we choose that. Not sure I want to, because they have to be packed with meaning using very few words or else they’re just kind of lame.
